1. Acceptance of these terms
By accessing or using this website (the "Site"), you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the Site. If you use the Site on behalf of an organization, you agree to these terms on its behalf.
2. What this Site is
The Site is an independent, non-commercial educational project that collects, organizes, and displays information that is already publicly available -- including news reports, court records, government documents, public records requests, press releases, and reports by civil-liberties and research organizations -- and presents it as maps, summaries, and links. Every entry is intended to be tied to one or more publicly accessible sources, which are cited so that readers can review the original material themselves. The Site does not conduct surveillance, collect data about visitors' vehicles or faces, or generate any original investigative findings of its own.
3. Informational only -- not legal or professional advice
All content is provided for general informational and educational purposes only. Nothing on the Site is legal, professional, or other advice, and nothing on it should be relied upon as a statement of current law or fact. Laws, programs, contracts, and events change, and you should consult a qualified professional and the primary sources before making any decision. Your use of the Site does not create any advisor, client, or other special relationship.
4. No warranty; provided "as is"
The Site and all of its content are provided "as is" and "as available," without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of accuracy, completeness, timeliness, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. Information is compiled from third-party sources and may contain errors, omissions, or material that is out of date. We do not warrant that the Site will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components, and we make no guarantee that any entry is accurate or current. You use the Site, and rely on any information on it, entirely at your own risk.
5. Sources and third-party content
The Site summarizes and links to material published by third parties. Those summaries are short, factual descriptions written to help readers locate the original reporting, which remains the authoritative source. We are not responsible for the content, accuracy, or availability of any third-party source, website, or document that we describe or link to, and a link or citation is not an endorsement of that source. Where a summary and a cited source differ, the cited source governs.
6. No accusation of wrongdoing; no endorsement
Entries on the Site describe events, programs, contracts, court cases, votes, and other matters as reported by the cited sources. The inclusion of any company, product, vendor, agency, jurisdiction, official, or other party is not, and should not be read as, an assertion by us that the party engaged in any illegal, improper, or wrongful conduct beyond what the cited sources themselves report. Characterizations such as "misuse," "removed," "restricted," or "contesting" reflect the reporting and the status described in those sources, not an independent legal conclusion or opinion by us. If you believe an entry mischaracterizes a matter, please use the correction process below.
7. Lawful use only; no vandalism or property damage
The Site documents these issues for research, education, journalism, and lawful civic participation only. It does not condone, encourage, endorse, organize, or provide instructions for any unlawful activity. In particular, the Site does not support or encourage vandalism, theft, sabotage, tampering with, disabling, or any damage to or destruction of public or private property, including but not limited to automated license plate readers and other cameras, data centers, networks, and related equipment or infrastructure. The appropriate and intended ways to act on anything described here are lawful and peaceful: contacting elected officials, submitting public comments, filing records requests, organizing, voting, and pursuing legitimate legal channels. Anyone who damages property or breaks the law does so entirely on their own, against the purpose of the Site, and is solely responsible for their own conduct.
8. Intellectual property and fair use
Facts, data, dates, locations, and the existence of public events are not subject to copyright. Original text, layout, code, maps, and design on the Site are the property of the Site's operator. Brief quotations and short descriptions of third-party material are used for purposes such as commentary, criticism, news reporting, research, and education, which we believe constitute fair use. Trademarks, names, and logos referenced on the Site belong to their respective owners and are used only to identify the parties described; their use does not imply any affiliation with or endorsement by those owners.
9. Corrections and removal requests
We aim to be accurate and to rely on reputable, verifiable sources. If you are a party described on the Site, or anyone else, and you believe an entry is inaccurate, out of date, or should be corrected or removed, please send us the details and any supporting source through our submission page. We review good-faith requests and will correct or remove material where appropriate. Submitting a request does not guarantee a particular outcome, but we take accuracy seriously and respond to credible concerns.
10. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Site's operator and its contributors will not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, special, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits, reputation, or goodwill, arising out of or relating to your access to, use of, or inability to use the Site or any content on it, whether based in contract, tort, negligence, strict liability, or any other theory, even if advised of the possibility of such damages. To the extent any liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the greatest extent permitted by law.
11. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless the Site's operator and its contributors from any claims, damages, liabilities, costs, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of your use or misuse of the Site, your violation of these terms, or your violation of any law or the rights of any third party.
12. External links
The Site contains links to websites and resources operated by third parties. Those sites are not under our control, and we are not responsible for their content, policies, or practices. Following an external link is at your own risk.
13. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. Changes take effect when posted, and the "last updated" date above reflects the most recent revision. Your continued use of the Site after changes are posted means you accept the updated terms.
14. Contact
Questions about these terms, or requests for correction or removal, can be sent through our submission page.
