Signed May 20, 2025; was set to take effect July 1, 2026. On June 27, 2026, a federal court (NetChoice v. Hilgers, D. Neb., 4:26-cv-3149) preliminarily enjoined the core provisions -- the requirement that platforms use a 'reasonable age verification method' and obtain express parental consent for users under 18 -- finding they regulate expressive activity, are content-based, and fail strict scrutiny. The parental-monitoring provisions and the remainder of the law may still be enforced under its severability clause.
